Dorset Pub Walks

A series of scenic walks in Dorset

There is a short and a long version of this walk through an area which is part of the Army's firing range. Whilst this means that this walk is not possible during test firing (the road through the Purbeck Hills being closed at these times), it does mean that the landscape and the village of Tyneham has remained largely unchanged for over 50 years.

The walk starts and ends in Tyneham Village -a 'ghost village' deserted since 1943 (grid reference SY 881804). You will need a car to reach it. Use OS Explorer map OL15.

Going: Relatively easy, with only one steep climb and descent near the start of both walks and then a second climb and descent returning to Tyneham on the longer version of the walk.

Distances: 3.6 miles (5.8 Km) or 2.5miles (4 Km).

Pubs: Although there is not a pub on the walk, there are pubs nearby at West Lulworth to the west and Corfe Castle and Kingston to the east.
